Walled Garden

A walled garden on Dartmoor, set at a lower level and designed as a composed landscape viewed from the house and terrace above. Structured yet natural, the garden offers year-round interest while accommodating family life, with a generous central lawn providing space for children to play.

The garden is divided into two balanced halves, connected by a sequence of steps and a linking path between entrances. A wisteria tunnel running across the lower wall, and wildflower meadow on one side is contrasted with refined, naturalistic planting on the other. Locally sourced granite, crushed on site, is used throughout, grounding the design in its Dartmoor context.

Water features at both the upper and lower levels anchor the space, subtly connected by a ribbon of blue planting that traces the line of underground water beneath the garden. The scheme will be completed with delicate Amelanchier trees, bespoke seating, a hammock and discreet bird boxes, creating a tranquil, luxurious garden that feels both elegant and deeply connected to its setting.
